How to Opt Out of Unwanted Solicitations
“I completed a loan application and now my phone won’t stop ringing with unwanted solicitation calls!”
Unfortunately, that’s a common occurrence described by customers to employees at banks across the country, including Norway Savings Bank. Please know that Norway Savings Bank would never sell your information. It’s a commitment that our customers have long appreciated and we are pleased to offer.
Despite this fact, once you submit an application for a mortgage, indirect loan, or other loans, phone calls and emails from companies you’ve never heard of inundate your voicemail and inboxes.
Why Does this Happen?
When completing an application, your lender pulls your credit report. Often, within 24 hours of your credit being pulled, your contact information is placed on a “trigger leads” list and sold by credit bureaus to creditors and insurers, making you a target for unsolicited calls. The lead informs them that you’re actively looking to obtain financing and the companies use your information to contact you in an effort to earn your business. All banks, including NSB, have no control over “trigger leads” which is why NSB strongly recommends working with our lenders who are reliable partners that have your interests in mind and keep you informed every step of the way.
What Can I Do to Stop Solicitations?
Good news! You have free options. As aggravating as the unwanted calls and emails can be, they are legal, which means you might want to take a proactive approach in opting out of the communications.
Visit www.optoutprescreen.com and sign up to stop the credit bureaus from selling your information. The process generally takes a week or two to complete.
You can also call 1-888-5-OPTOUT (1-888-567-8688) to stop the selling of your information.
To eliminate unwanted solicitation and telemarketing calls, you might consider registering your number on the National Do Not Call Registry at www.donotcall.gov. Make sure to include all phone numbers you use, including work and cell. This service can sometimes take 2-4 weeks to take effect.
Have Questions?
If you have additional questions about unwanted solicitations and the steps you can take to avoid them, please contact the Norway Savings Bank Customer Care Center at 1-888-725-2207.
