Bike Maine with Barry – Day 2

SEPTEMBER 15, 2015

Today’s ride was a 54-mile trek from Old Orchard to Bridgton. We woke up to the sun and 55-degree temperatures, which was a treat considering the wind and rain that occurred the night before. We started out on relatively flat terrain, but about two-thirds of the way into our ride we approached lots of rolling hills. We had some nice rest stops along the Saco River in Hollis and Limington and rode past a few familiar businesses.

Today’s lunch stop was at Sebago Center Community Church. They served ham and cheese sandwiches with a fresh garden salad and a delicious chilled blueberry soup topped with whipped cream. It was made by slow cooking the blueberries in a pot then blending them with plain yogurt. Absolutely amazing! The food and conversation with my fellow cyclists was a great way to recharge my batteries before embarking on the final leg of Day 2.

Once we arrived in Bridgton, we were treated to a warm reception from the community. After the ride, I walked over to the Bridgton branch and said hi to the team. Dinner was at the Bridgton Community Center. They served barbecue chicken from Campfire Grill, tofu kebabs, roasted vegetables, corn on the cob and apple crisp with ice cream. Three bands (Stream Reggae, Primo Cubano and Big Fancy) played throughout the afternoon and evening. Tomorrow we ride to Bethel for a rest day.
