NSB Sponsoring 7th Annual Turkey Trot 4 Hope Benefiting Cancer Resource Center of Western Maine
NORWAY—“The Cancer Resource Center of Western Maine is a warm and welcoming organization making a real difference in the lives of many and is certainly deserving of assistance in honor of its mission and impact.”
The words of Dan Walsh, President and CEO of Norway Savings Bank, summarize a relationship of support and gratitude that extends to the inception of the Cancer Resource Center of Western Maine nearly a decade ago. From fundraisers to honoring the Center with the $10,000 Patricia Weigel Pay It Forward Award in January, NSB is thrilled whenever it is able to help the cause.
“The support of NSB has translated into so much good being spread in the community. Their contributions have helped us in our mission of enhancing life for individuals and their loved ones who are facing the many challenges of cancer,” said Diane Madden, Executive Director of the Cancer Resource Center of Western Maine.
On Thanksgiving Day (November 28), NSB is proud to serve as a $1,000 sponsor of the 7th Annual Turkey Trot 4 Hope, a fundraising event for all ages that features a four-mile run, a one-mile run, and a “fun run.” All money raised will go directly to cancer patients through support, education, and services at the Center, all provided for free. Registration is open for participants at www.crcofwm.org where you can also find details about the event.
“The Turkey Trot 4 Hope brings families together on one of the most popular running days of the year while also raising much needed funds. Last year’s event featured over 300 participants running, jogging, and walking through the streets of Norway and by picturesque Norway Lake,” said Caleb Grover, the chairperson for the event who is also a Mortgage Loan Officer for NSB.
“Supporting the Turkey Trot 4 Hope is another way that NSB is demonstrating its commitment to the Center and the community,” said Judy Stone, President of the Center’s Board of Directors. “With the help of the bank and all those who donate their time, talent, and contributions to the Center, we are able to help cancer patients navigate the emotional terrain of a diagnosis because nobody should face cancer alone.”
The Center continues to fill a crucial need in western Maine with a network of support, an oncology social worker, wellness programs, and the offering of food and travel assistance, emergency financial assistance, and a variety of comfort care items.
“It’s an amazing place that offers a wide range of physical, emotional, and basic non-medical needs to support patients and their families,” said Walsh. “NSB and the wider community are thankful for all that the Center does and the hope that it nurtures.”
