Free “Fraud or Not?” Workshop in Standish to Help Participants Avoid Common Financial Scams

STANDISH — Americans lose billions of dollars to fraud each year, including countless people in Maine.

In an effort to help people identify and avoid today’s most common financial scams, Norway Savings Bank is partnering with Standish Parks & Recreation to present a fraud prevention workshop entitled “Fraud or Not?” on Thursday, September 17, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. The workshop will be held in the Sebago Lake Room of the Standish Municipal Office at 175 Northeast Road.

“Fraud or Not?” will include an overview of the most common fraud ‘red flags’ as well as provide the tools and knowledge to protect yourself against today’s most prevalent scams. The workshop will be presented by Amy Lehigh, Market Manager VP for NSB, and Landen Emery, Customer Relations Representative at NSB.

All are welcome to attend the event, and participation is free. Light refreshments will be provided.

“As part of the workshop, we’ll break off into small groups and participants will be able to ‘play detective’ and determine if scenarios are real cases of fraud or not. Then, we’ll talk about it in the larger group,” said Lehigh. “We’ll also have an open discussion and answer any questions that arise. It’s crucial that people recognize how common it is to be confronted with fraud. This is a topic that people can identify with and the information can really help.”
