NSB Donates $2,500 to Kennebunk’s Spaulding Center for Active Living
KENNEBUNK—What began over three decades ago as an idea of Annie and Hank Spaulding to combat senior isolation has become a revered Kennebunk gathering place with over 600 regular participants and a band of loyal, caring volunteers.
The Spaulding Center for Active Living is a nonprofit offering a wide variety of community outreach programs that provide support, sensitivity, and smiles to the hundreds of people from 23 Maine and New Hampshire towns that stroll through its doors on Port Road each year.
Norway Savings Bank is a proud, longtime supporter of the organization, including a $2,500 donation in February, and several NSB team members also contribute to the cause with hundreds of volunteer hours.
“Norway Savings Bank has been a generous sponsor for years,” said Bridget Dempsey, Executive Director of The Center. “The NSB team members who have volunteered are highly skilled and community minded. They have strengthened our operations with their active support.”
“To be able to have a place where you can meet with friends, enjoy similar hobbies together and even be able to share life stories, the good and the bad, is like a diamond in the rough,” said Amanda Drouin, a volunteer at the Center who is also NSB’s Branch Manager in Saco. “Our community wouldn’t be able to have this amazing place to be if not for the dedicated staff and volunteers who truly believe in this mission.”
“I think the Center’s mission to provide support and companionship for the community’s seniors is important to the wellbeing of our community as a whole,” said Julie Richardson, another Center volunteer who is a Personal Banker based at NSB’s Kennebunk branch. “Volunteering there inspires me to find ways to build connections with the people around me. It’s a beautiful place.”
It’s a busy place, too. The list of activities and offerings stretches page after page, including games, groups, classes, workshops, luncheons, activity gatherings, clubs, movies, special events, and much more. A caregiver support group also provides solace for those caring for seniors as they navigate their journey.
It’s an organization with a sole mission of togetherness.
“The Spaulding Center serves as a source of community and a beacon for hope,” said Dan Walsh, President and CEO of Norway Savings Bank. “We truly appreciate the opportunity to support this organization in its impactful and meaningful work.”
