NSB Senior Leaders Go Gardening for Growing to Give
BRUNSWICK—On a chilly April morning, as they dug trenches, cut sod, and replaced mud with wood chips, senior leaders at Norway Savings Bank couldn’t help but smile, knowing that with each garden bed border they created, it was assisting Growing to Give’s mission of combatting food insecurity (picture, caption below).
Growing to Give is a non-profit, climate-friendly farming operation based at Scatter Good Farm in Brunswick. The organization has produced over 125,000 pounds of organic vegetables, grown and donated to local food pantries, including over 18,500 pounds in 2025 alone.
With only two full-time employees, the nonprofit relies heavily on the drive and generosity of volunteers in ensuring access to nutritious food for thousands of local residents in need at food banks, food pantries, Head Start centers, elderly housing complexes, school backpack programs, and other venues.
“What they’ve done and the difference they have made for families and individuals in need is awe-inspiring. We couldn’t be happier to play a small part in their massive impact,” said Dan Walsh, President and CEO of NSB who was one of eight leaders at NSB to volunteer at Scatter Good. “They’ve really cultivated a sense of community among volunteers and those being served. Growing to Give helps you see that the power of community can be harnessed to accomplish anything.”
