NSB Continues People Plus Partnership with $1,500 Donation
BRUNSWICK—“Exercising, playing games, participating in art classes, you name it. It’s a great way to meet up with your friends or to make new ones. It’s just a very friendly place to gather and spend part of your day.”
The words of Stacy Frizzle-Edgerton, Executive Director of People Plus in Brunswick, offer a succinct description of an organization that has become a town institution, but barely scratch the surface of the impact it has made on area residents. Whether it’s seniors exercising their minds and bodies in activities and educational workshops or young people building camaraderie and friendship at the Teen Center, People Plus is a venue where individuals of all ages can gather and, quite simply, improve their lives.
“People Plus serves greater Brunswick by supporting healthy and independent lives for older adults and encouraging young people to explore their creativity and engage with fellow teens. People Plus is known as a ‘center for community’ and it lives up to that reputation in so many ways,” said Dan Walsh, President and CEO of Norway Savings Bank. “Their reach and effort are truly inspiring.”
In addition, People Plus organizes thousands of grocery and meal deliveries each year, and provides tens of thousands of miles in free rides annually.
The work of this center for community has motivated consistent support from area businesses, including Norway Savings Bank, which recently donated $1,500 to People Plus.
“The support of Norway Savings and all of our sponsors and contributors literally help thousands of our neighbors, from homebound elders in need of prescription deliveries to a young teen finding their stride,” said Stacy. “We’re grateful for the recognition of the work we do and the positive impact People Plus makes.”
In addition to its daily and weekly activities, People Plus also holds a number of special events that draw people from around the Midcoast and beyond, including a large Senior Health Expo each October.
“Last year, the Senior Health Expo drew over 1,000 participants and around 100 businesses, services, and programs for seniors,” said Stacy. “Bringing together so many people in our community to share vital information, provide health services, and have fun while getting a flu shot is exactly what the People Plus organization is all about.”
That feeling of welcome is extended to anyone in need. People Plus is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Fridays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the facility on 35 Union Street, which also houses the Brunswick Area Teen Center.
