Norway Savings Honored by Maine Senate and House During Special Day in Augusta

AUGUSTA—“I’m very proud to recognize Norway Savings. I want them to understand the significance of their recent recognition, and it’s my pleasure to congratulate them.”

The words of Representative Sawin Millett (R-Waterford) were followed by a standing ovation by the Maine House of Representatives for the representatives of Norway Savings Bank seated in the gallery during a special presentation in Augusta on Wednesday, March 13 (picture, caption below).

The celebratory occasion honored Norway Savings for several accolades bestowed upon the bank in the last two months:

  • NSB was named “one of the strongest banks in the nation by BauerFinancial, one of the nation’s premier bank rating firms.
  • NSB maintained Bauer’s 5-Star Rating for the 136th consecutive quarter (34 years)
  • NSB received an “Outstanding” rating for a third consecutive Community Reinvestment Act examination cycle from the FDIC, an almost unprecedented accomplishment for banks.

The Norway Savings delegation on Wednesday included Dan Walsh, President and CEO; Brian Shibles, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer EVP; Melissa Rock, Marketing Director VP; and Dave Guthro, Communications and Marketing Officer AVP.

Following their reception in the House of Representatives, the Norway Savings team members received recognition and applause from the Maine Senate as well.

“Founded in 1866, Norway Savings’ success is a result of its commitment to personal values, community values, and financial values that have never faltered over 158 years,” said Senator Rick Bennett (R-Oxford) during his remarks in the Senate Chamber. “The mission of Norway Savings is to sustain strong financial performance; provide a thriving workplace for their employees as it has received a Best Place for Working Parents designation for the last two years and Best Wellness Employer Gold Certification for five straight years; help their customers achieve their financial goals; support local non-profit organizations; and contribute to the economic development that makes our communities great places to live.”

During the visit, Representative Millett presented Norway Savings Bank with a beautiful Legislative Sentiment parchment.
