Norway Savings Bank responds to matching grant to support Rufus Porter Museum
Norway, Maine – History is what makes up who we are and where we stand. Without history where would we be? The Rufus Porter Museum is a prime example of local history. Thanks to the 19th-century wall murals and building construction from the 18th century, the museum can tell us a story without words. With their “On the Move” campaign in full swing, the museum is almost ready to move the “Nathan Church House” from its current location of 67 North Street to 121 Main Street, in the heart of Bridgton’s downtown. The red cape will cost approximately $10 per foot to move. Norway Savings Bank donated $5,000 to help with the move.
The museum recently received a matching grant from the Ham Foundation but first they must raise $38,000 before receiving the grant funds. “Board members from the Rufus Porter Museum happily receive a generous donation to the museum’s “On the Move” campaign from Norway Savings Bank. The donation nearly makes the first phase of our campaign complete. This exciting step will be the third, and hopefully last, move of the 228-year history of Bridgton’s Church House,” states Martha Cummings, Museum Director and Curator.
With $8,000 remaining to reach their goal, we encourage everyone to help keep the Rufus Porter Museum “On the Move”! Donations can be made on the museum’s website or sent to PO Box 544, Bridgton, ME 04009. Learn more at www.rufusportermuseum.org.
