Norway Savings Bank donates used computer equipment to charity
NORWAY, Maine – Norway Savings Bank is proud to announce a donation of 124 used computers, laptops and monitors in addition to other obsolete technology to “give IT. get IT.”, a non-profit organization, which will recycle, refurbish and provide them at low or no cost to those in need.
The organization, give IT. get IT., is dedicated to “digital inclusion.” This concept recognizes that more than 30% of Americans do not have access to a computer, the Internet or the skills to compete in the 21st Century economy.
Since its inception in 2002 (under the name PCs for Maine and eWaste Alternatives), the organization has benefited more than 14,000 Mainers with computers, training and support.
“Due to our hardware life cycle requirements, we’ve upgraded hundreds of computers, routers, switches, tablets, etc., over the years,” said Ann Brett, SVP and Chief Technology and Information Security Officer for Norway Savings Bank. “The organization, give IT. get IT., provides a secure way for us to put our outdated equipment to good use or securely dispose of it.”
“Businesses can make a real difference when they donate their used technology,” said Jodi Martin, Executive Director of give IT. get IT. “Our recycling and refurbishing processes are certified and approved by the Environmental Protection Agency. And we offer local, full service on-site collection, recording, reporting, reuse, waste recycling and extensive data security.”
With over $400 million coming from the federal government to increase broadband internet access here in Maine, this is an exciting time for digital equity. In addition to high speed internet, Mainers in need also require reliable computers to take online classes and acquire new skills plus the knowledge to use them. Thanks to Norway Savings Bank, we will be putting nearly 100 computers into the hands of people who would otherwise be unable to afford them so they can get to work on improving their lives.”
