Norway Savings Bank Contributes $20,000 to Pine Tree Council of the Boy Scouts of America

New dining hall to be built for Scouts, volunteers and community

RAYMOND, ME (May 4, 2016) –Each year, Cub Scout and Boy Scout troops from across Maine participate in summer and winter camps at the historic Camp William Hinds, located on Panther Pond in Raymond. Camp Hinds was founded in 1927 and over the years has grown to include a number of facilities and buildings where Scouts learn archery, swimming, boating skills, and shelter building skills while earning merit badges. Many of the facilities are in need of repair to ensure that Scouts are able to continue to enjoy everything that Camp Hinds has to offer.

In a unique partnership with the Pentagon’s Innovative Readiness Training Program, several buildings at Pine Tree Council camp properties are undergoing restoration and renovation. Military personnel team up to supply the labor for the construction projects while receiving essential training in engineering and construction to prepare them for combat missions. In-kind donations from the local building community and financial gifts from community partners like Norway Saving Bank cover the cost of materials. “Camp Hinds has such a rich history and we want to ensure that it continues to be a resource for future generations of Scouts to explore and create cherished memories,” said Patricia Weigel, President & CEO of Norway Savings Bank.

“Thanks to Norway Savings Bank’s generous gift, we are one step closer to fully financing the new 10,000 square foot dining hall scheduled for completion this fall. The new dining hall will attract thousands of youth from Maine and the Northeast to Camp William Hinds and offer a safe and welcoming space to congregate as a community,” said Scout Executive/CEO Eric Tarbox.
