Norway Savings Bank and Maine Gladiators Raise Money for Youth Hockey Scholarships
NORWAY, Maine – On October 26, 2017, Norway Savings Bank and Maine Gladiators, the largest youth hockey program in the Lewiston/Auburn area, joined forces to raise more than $1,700 to benefit kids who want to play hockey at a high level, but experience financial limitations. The event took place at the Norway Savings Bank Arena in Auburn.
The 2nd Annual Norway Savings Bank Hockey Night featured live entertainment, a silent auction, an appearance by World Champion Snowboarder, Seth Wescott and a scrimmage game between two of the 10U Gladiators teams.
“Attendees were treated to great food and drink and a fun night celebrating hockey,” said Pat Weigel, President and CEO of Norway Savings Bank. “We believe that the Norway Savings Bank Arena is a community resource from which everyone can benefit. This scholarship money will make high-level hockey even more accessible to more kids.”
The Maine Gladiators also recognized their second annual “Local Hockey Hero” – Denise Gilbert – the long-time Gladiators scheduler who has dedicated countless hours to scheduling ice time, coordinating timekeepers, updating the website and volunteering during special events.
In addition, Norway Savings Bank provided $200 for the “2017 Denise Gilbert Hockey Hero Scholarship” to Caden Westhoven, a 10U Gladiator who volunteered as a Player Ambassador, leading the league in efforts to collect food items for the Good Shepherd Food Bank.
