NSB Donates $1,500 to Support Youth Camping in Maine
PORTLAND—For nearly a century, the Maine Youth Camping Foundation has been a pioneer in the field of youth camping through promoting meaningful developmental, educational, and recreational experiences for children around the state. With more than 140 member camps and adventure programs, the organization has positively affected generations of local youth while instilling a love of nature and community in the process. Norway Savings Bank has been a longtime supporter of the foundation and its mission of enhancing the public’s understanding of the value of Maine camps and offering the camps themselves with a wide variety of resources. Most recently, NSB donated $1,500 to the foundation.
“The ongoing support over the years from Norway Savings makes all the difference in the world to us,” said Lucy Norvell, Executive Director of Maine Summer Camps, part of the foundation. “Maine camps go beyond wilderness immersion, they create environmental stewards and outdoors enthusiasts, and build confidence and camaraderie. We’re so grateful that NSB appreciates the importance of fostering growth in teamwork, responsibility, and mutual respect among the youngsters.”
With a primary goal of providing free camp information to the public, the organization maintains a searchable website of Maine camps, provides a print camp directory, and assists parents seeking opportunities for their children, including those with special physical or financial needs.
“The Maine Youth Camping Foundation continues to remain at the forefront of the youth camp movement across the country,” said Dan Walsh, President and CEO of Norway Savings Bank. “The collaboration between camps that the staff enables and the opportunities they provide are remarkable. From camper safety to program development to environmental impact, the support can’t be measured and we’re thrilled to play a small part in the positive difference they make on the children and families they serve.”
