NSB Makes $2,500 Donation to Midcoast Museum “Building Pride”

BATH—The Maine Maritime Museum in Bath draws visitors from around the world to its beautiful campus on the banks of the Kennebec River in Bath. Through immersive experiences, educational activities, and spectacular exhibits, the museum brings people of all ages to a storied past while promoting a strong future for Maine’s waterways. Norway Savings Bank has been inspired to consistently support this cultural institution in the ‘City of Ships’ for over a decade, including a recent $2,500 contribution.

“NSB is happy to assist the Maine Maritime Museum because it’s dedicated to building pride in our shared history,” said Dan Walsh, President and CEO of NSB. “The museum embraces that history and promotes it in many ways.”

Located on 243 Washington Street, the museum is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., with a plethora of current and permanent exhibits and collections on display inside the campus’ 15 structures. Visitors can also head outside to stroll through a shipyard where large wooden sailing vessels were once built and view the Wyoming sculpture, an evocation of the largest wooden schooner ever built in North America. Daily cruises, a working boat shop, and blacksmithing demonstrations are also among the many features at this one-of-a-kind venue.

“We are able to expand our educational mission, offer free and low-cost opportunities to visitors and students, and pursue innovative programming and exhibits,” said Chris Timm, Executive Director of Maine Maritime Museum. “We recognize that none of this would be possible without new donors and longtime supporters, like Norway Savings, who appreciate our mission and contribute financial aid that ensures we can serve our visitors and deliver an unforgettable experience.”

Admission to the museum and the grounds is $22 for adults, $20 for seniors, and free for those ages 17 and under, with proceeds supporting the ongoing preservation and existence of this Maine marvel. The museum has grown from the collective vision of seven Bath residents to celebrate the area’s maritime legacy over six decades ago into a beloved mid-coast institution which is achieving that goal and so much more.

“We’re grateful for the purpose and impact of Maine Maritime Museum,” said Walsh. “We know it will continue to enjoy success in forming connections with patrons, staff, and volunteers as well as between the past and present.”
