NSB Donates $1,000 to the Work of Maine Downtown Center
AUGUSTA—In support of a statewide resource for preservation-based downtown revitalization, Norway Savings Bank was pleased to donate $1,000 to the Maine Downtown Center (MDC), part of the Maine Development Foundation.
Established in 1999, MDC supports over 40 Maine communities through a nationally recognized model of fostering community-based development. MDC offers assistance through initiatives that result in job creation, business growth, building rehabilitation, and cultural enhancement.
Just a handful of the success stories carried out by the MDC include Biddeford’s 7-Minute Work Out Station, the Kennebec Trail Connection in Augusta, a complete renovation to energy-efficient infrastructures at the Bangor Opera House and Penobscot Theatre Company, the installation of heat pumps and heating system controls to the St. Elizabeth’s Child Development Center in Portland, and REvitalizeME grants for the restoration and improvement of downtown buildings like Johnson Hall in Gardiner and Peavey Memorial Library in Eastport.
“Innovative approaches to shifting needs over the years have enabled MDC to improve our downtowns and drive economic growth across Maine,” said Dan Walsh, President and CEO of Norway Savings Bank. “We’re grateful for their contributions and thankful to be able to support their important work.”
“The Maine Downtown Center thanks Norway Savings Bank for its support. It makes it possible for us to carry out many initiatives and programs that work to drive Maine’s economy forward. When we all work together, we can achieve our shared vision of a high quality of life for Maine people,” said Yellow Light Breen, President and CEO of the Maine Development Foundation.
