NSB Donates $1,000 to Gorham’s Maine Blue Collar Scholarship Foundation

GORHAM—”Maine is facing a shortage of skilled trades workers, and for those of us in the trades industries, it’s a challenge we see every day,” said Chrissi Moody.

Moody and other business leaders from around Maine created and oversee the Maine Blue Collar Scholarship Foundation, designed to remove barriers for motivated individuals pursuing careers in the trades.

“Last year, we awarded over 100 scholarships to passionate individuals to assist with the cost of tools, equipment, or continuing education,” said Moody. “We are challenging the belief that a traditional four-year college degree is the only path to success. We champion a future where working with your hands, solving complex problems, and creating innovative solutions as carpenters, electricians, mechanics, welders, plumbers, and many more occupations are recognized and respected.”

In that spirit, Norway Savings is happy to donate $1,000 to their efforts.

“This is an all-volunteer foundation that is driving an increase in Maine’s skilled workforce. That, in turn, helps our state’s economy and future. NSB is thrilled to help empower the next generation of tradespeople to build meaningful careers right here in Maine,” said Dan Walsh, President and CEO of Norway Savings Bank.
