NSB Donates $2,500 to 38th Annual Maine Adaptive Ski-A-Thon

NEWRY—Maine Adaptive Sports & Recreation has offered adaptive sports, inclusion, and joy to thousands since its inception in 1982. Annually, around 300 Maine Adaptive volunteers provide more than 2,500 lessons in alpine skiing, Nordic skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, cycling, golf, tennis, pickleball, mountain biking, climbing, and paddling.

Now in its 38th year, the Maine Adaptive Ski-A-Thon, the organization’s biggest annual fundraiser, is set for January through a final celebration at Sunday River Ski Resort on Sunday, March 22, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The theme of this year’s fundraiser is Wild West. “The final celebration on March 22 includes fun games, challenges, a raffle, food, and much more. It’s one of our favorite events of the year and brings together students, volunteers, and supporters for a day of joy and accomplishment,” said Amy Bannon-Staats, Co-Executive Director for Maine Adaptive.

“Whether skiing or riding, people of all abilities come together to make a difference, and the funds raised directly support the purchase of our adaptive equipment, program development, and instruction for children, adults, and veterans with disabilities,” said Enock Glidden, Development Coordinator for Maine Adaptive. “Thanks to all of the support, we’re able to keep our programs cost-free for those who need our services most. NSB’s ongoing support fuels not just our students’ passion but also our ability to continue providing these life-changing opportunities.”

“My gratitude for these contributions cannot be measured,” said Paul Hogan, President of the Maine Adaptive Board of Directors. “We believe that having access to and participating in recreational sports is integral to a well-rounded life for every person, and we are so grateful to be able to continue providing these life-changing opportunities.”
