NSB Proudly Continues Support of Maine Maritime Museum

BATH—From immersive experiences and exhibits to hands-on educational activities for people of all ages, Maine Maritime Museum has brought people back to a storied past while stirring imagination for the future of Maine’s waterways since 1962.

It’s a point of community pride that the museum also draws visitors from around the world to their beautiful campus on the banks of the Kennebec River.

Norway Savings Bank has been inspired to consistently support this cultural institution for over a decade, including a $2,500 contribution to its mission in April.

“Bath is the ‘City of Ships’ and its residents embrace that history and promote it in so many ways, none more prominently or effectively than Maine Maritime Museum,” said Dan Walsh, President and CEO of Norway Savings Bank. “NSB is happy to support the museum because it’s dedicated to building pride in our shared history while providing ways for visitors to understand and appreciate Maine’s past and its tremendous relevance today.”

The museum is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., with a plethora of current and permanent exhibits and collections on display inside the campus’ 15 structures. Visitors can also head outside to stroll through a shipyard where large wooden sailing vessels were once built and view the Wyoming sculpture, an evocation of the largest wooden schooner ever built in North America. Daily cruises, a working boatshop, and blacksmithing demonstrations are also among the many features at this one-of-a-kind venue.

“Our community plays a profound role in the success and growth of the museum. We are able to expand our educational mission, offer free and low-cost opportunities to visitors and students, and pursue innovative programming and exhibits,” said Chris Timm, Executive Director of Maine Maritime Museum. “We recognize that none of this would be possible without new donors and longtime supporters, like Norway Savings, who appreciate our mission and contribute financial aid that ensures we can serve our visitors and deliver an unforgettable experience.”

Admission to the museum and the grounds is $20 for adults, $18 for seniors, and free for those ages 17 and under, with proceeds supporting the ongoing preservation and existence of this Maine marvel.

The museum has grown from the collective vision of seven Bath residents to celebrate the area’s maritime legacy over six decades ago into a beloved mid-coast institution which is achieving that goal and so much more.

“We’re grateful for the purpose and impact of Maine Maritime Museum,” said Walsh. “We know it will continue to enjoy success in forming connections with patrons, staff, and volunteers as well as between the past and present.”
