NSB Offers Financial Assistance to Two Lewiston Art Institutions

LEWISTON—In support of local entertainment, special events, and memorable moments in the arts community, Norway Savings Bank is pleased to donate $1,500 to the Franco Center and $1,000 to the Maine Music Society.

Located on 46 Cedar Street in Lewiston, the Franco-American Heritage Center, colloquially known as the Franco Center, is a revered performing arts and cultural facility that offers a showcase for today’s talent and a venue to celebrate Maine’s past and present, with 80% of Maine’s Franco-American population living within 50 miles of Lewiston/Auburn.

“NSB’s generosity has been instrumental in helping us pursue our mission,” said Theresa Shanahan, Executive Director of the Franco Center. “We strive to honor and preserve our Franco-American heritage and welcome our neighbors from diverse cultures through live performances, celebrations, and education.”

Based at the Franco Center is the Maine Music Society, which has delighted thousands of Mainers for over 50 years. The society is comprised of the MMS Chorale, a mixed-voice community chorus led by MMS Artistic Director Dr. Richard Nickerson, and the MMS Chamber Singers, a 15-voice, a cappella group that performs at a variety of venues, large and intimate.

“We are so thankful for NSB’s longtime support of the Maine Music Society,” said Dr. Nickerson. “The bank recognizes the importance of our organization and appreciates the role we play in the community. We are able to connect these talented and engaged singers and offer cultural initiatives that reach people who otherwise wouldn’t be exposed to the arts and the beauty of this music.”
