NSB Donates $2,025 to Portland Area Nonprofits in Honor of Congress Street Branch’s 25th Anniversary

PORTLAND — On August 4-8, Norway Savings Bank celebrated 25 years on Congress Street in Portland with a weeklong celebration that included games, giveaways, and refreshments to thank customers for their loyalty to the branch located on 1200 Congress Street. With a theme of “Take Me Out to the Ball Game,” visitors to the branch were treated to Sea Dogs merch and tickets and, of course, ballpark favorites like hot dogs, popcorn, peanuts, and Cracker Jacks. The branch’s neighbor, Slugger the Sea Dog, even played a part in getting the branch ready for the party.

During the week, customers and community members were also invited to go online or visit the branch and vote for local non-profit organizations to determine how a celebratory $2,025 in donations would be split. The recipients of the anniversary donations are: Portland Wheelers, which offers experiences for those unable to ride a bike by themselves to get people outdoors for therapeutic recreation, socialization, and adventure; Maine Children’s Cancer Program, which provides children fighting cancer and blood disorders with the best medical treatment available, participates in clinical research, and supports families throughout the journey; Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland, which provides temporary care and shelter for stray, abandoned, and relinquished animals while placing as many as possible into responsible and caring homes; and Ruth’s Reusable Resources, a free resource hub for teachers that is dedicated to providing every Maine child with the variety and quality of supplies needed to succeed in school.

In the coming months, NSB will also celebrate branch anniversaries in Fryeburg (50th), Topsham (40th), and Gorham (20th).
