NSB “Pitches” In to Send Tri-County 14-U Baseball Team in Oxford Hills Area to Babe Ruth World Series in Texas

NORWAY—After knocking off a team of all-stars from Pittsfield, Massachusetts, on Monday, July 20, the Tri-County Babe Ruth team, comprised of baseball players (ages 14 and under) from the Oxford Hills, Lake Region, and Fryeburg areas, are the New England Regional Champions. With the title now in hand, the team will head to the Babe Ruth World Series in Eagle Pass, Texas, to compete for the national championship on August 8-18. It marks just the second time in over half a century that a team from the league has advanced to nationals.

Local individuals and businesses are quickly pitching in to send the team to Texas, including Norway Savings Bank, which has made a $500 donation to the squad.

“We are truly grateful for Norway Savings Bank’s donation and understand in these times, any amount is even more appreciated,” said Joe Trybus, manager of the Tri-County team.

The team will head to Texas on August 8 and, after taking home state and regional titles, the young players carry lofty aspirations with them.

“We felt more confident as the regional tournament went on,” said Trybus. “The team is excited. These kids are resilient and competitors so we expect to be in the hunt. Lots of baseball and lots of fun!”

“I know I’ll be joined by many people in our footprint and beyond who will be pulling for the Tri-County team as they represent Maine and New England at nationals,” said Dan Walsh, President and CEO of Norway Savings. “It’ll be an incredible experience and a lifelong memory for these kids and their families, and we’re happy to play a small role in making this dream trip a reality.”

If you can make a contribution to help with travel expenses, the team has set up a GoFundMe page (https://gofund.me/dbb80648) The team is also accepting donations of checks or cash. To make a donation, contact Joe Trybus at 207-890-1437 or [email protected].
