Igniting the Power and Promise of Our Youth: NSB Continues Longtime Support of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bath/Brunswick
BRUNSWICK—Empowering young people on the path to graduate with a plan for their future as well as providing mentors that can last a lifetime are more than just goals espoused by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bath/Brunswick. They’re realities.
“We believe that inherent in every child is the ability to succeed and thrive in life. As a result of the mentorship relationships we create and support, data shows that our Littles begin to discover opportunities and possibilities they never dreamed existed,” said Carol Marquis, Executive Director of the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bath/Brunswick. “After being matched with a Big last year, our Littles reported that 100% feel more self-confident, 83% improved their grades, and 78% showed a decline in risky behaviors.”
Offering stability, social connectedness, and support drive volunteers and staff each day at an organization that has long drawn assistance from Norway Savings Bank, including a recent $2,000 donation.
“Playing a small part in helping to nurture these relationships, as well as the support and encouragement they offer, is an honor for Norway Savings,” said Dan Walsh, President and CEO of NSB. “It’s also been incredible to see some of our team members serving as mentors, volunteering, and even serving on their Board of Directors.”
“These mentoring relationships ignite the power and promise of our youth and touch the hearts of the caring adults who donate their time to the programs,” said Penny Anderson, NSB Market Manager in Brunswick who serves as Treasurer on the BBBS of Bath/Brunswick’s Board of Directors. “To see it in real time and observe the impact over the years is remarkable.”
“BBBS is guided by the vision for all children to achieve success in life,” said Karry Kane, NSB’s Mortgage Loan Officer VP in Brunswick and current BBBS of Bath/Brunswick Advisory Board Member. “This experience can help dramatically change the path of a child’s life for the better.”
There is no charge to children, families, or volunteer mentors to participate, and the organization doesn’t receive state or federal funding.
“Norway Savings Bank and other benevolent businesses play a crucial role in helping Bigs make life-changing impacts on Littles that generate better communities in the years that follow,” said Marquis. “This support improves our children’s lives every day. Happier, healthier, and brighter futures are possible for kids in need.”
