NSB Continues Longtime Support of Bridgton’s 4 on the Fourth

BRIDGTON—It’s an Independence Day tradition that has grown from less than 30 runners jogging to a farmhouse on Chadbourne Road in 1977 to an event that draws over 2,000 participants to Bridgton each July 4th.

The 4 on the Fourth returns this July, the 50th edition of the four-mile race that has become a part of the Bridgton fabric and a celebration of the lakeside fun that defines the town each summer. Norway Savings is a longtime supporter of the race, including a recent $1,000 donation.

Participants enjoy a trip through the heart of Maine’s Lakes region that features a mix of flat terrain, hills, and beautiful views, but also camaraderie and a palpable sense of community pride, while proceeds from the event benefit the Bridgton Public Library and other local nonprofits.

“At Norway Savings Bank, we’re thrilled to be able to help beloved events in the communities we serve,” said Dan Walsh, President and CEO of NSB. “To see the many ways in which the 4 on the Fourth has grown and become such an integral part of the Independence Day celebration in the area is remarkable.”

The race attracts a faithful group of runners but also participants from more than 35 states and many international competitors. It provides a venue for friends and families to enjoy each other, cheer on the participants, and elevate the spirit of a special place.
