NSB Sponsoring Gulf of Maine Research Institute’s Maine Blue Economy Week
PORTLAND—From September 30 through October 2, a three-day event will aim to find pathways and solutions for securing the future of Maine’s $6.8 billion marine economy.
The Gulf of Maine Research Institute (GMRI), the University of Maine, Bigelow Laboratory, and Northeastern University’s Roux Institute have partnered to organize Maine Blue Economy Week, an opportunity for entrepreneurs, researchers, students, and others to help shape Maine’s ocean and coast economies.
The event, which will be held at Holiday Inn by the Bay in Portland, will feature keynotes, panels, and breakout sessions on investment, innovation, workforce development, policy, and more. An Innovation Showcase at GMRI on 350 Commercial Street is also planned for October 1.
The event’s focus on moving beyond conversation towards collaboration and implementation has inspired Norway Savings Bank to serve as a $1,500 sponsor. In the last three years, NSB has contributed over $16,000 to GMRI in recognition of its commitment to education and actionable outcomes.
“Maine Blue Economy Week will help those invested in Maine’s ocean economy gain insight into the trends and opportunities for our state, helping to maintain and enhance Maine’s working waterfront. NSB is happy to pitch in to play a small part in making this experience and its potential outcomes possible,” said Dan Walsh, President and CEO of Norway Savings Bank.
“Norway Savings Bank’s continued support enables us to ensure a thriving ecosystem, economy, and communities in the Gulf of Maine and beyond. NSB is a partner in our mission to develop and deliver collaborative solutions to global ocean challenges,” said Natalie Sternberg of GMRI.
