“I’m honored that the ABA, which represents America’s banks, has asked me to serve on its board. Our industry, which employs two million people, extends more than $10 trillion in loans and safeguards $13 trillion in deposits, plays a large part in supporting the U.S. economy,” said Weigel.  “In my role, I’ll represent America’s banks and, more specifically, the Maine banking industry.  Maine banks directly employ more than 8,600 people, hold $27.9 billion in insured deposits and serve 1.7 million individuals, families and small business owners.”

At its annual convention in New York City, the ABA elected Weigel and nine other bankers from across the country as new board members.  They join 21 other bankers who are serving terms on the board.

About the American Bankers Association
The American Bankers Association is the united voice of America’s banks—small, regional and large—that employ more than 2 million women and men, hold nearly $17 trillion in assets, safeguard $13 trillion in deposits and extend more than $10 trillion in loans.  The ABA believes that government policies should recognize the industry’s diversity and the role as drivers of economic growth and job creation.  Laws and regulations should be tailored to correspond to a bank’s charter, business model, local markets and risk profile so banks across America can serve their customers and communities.
