LEWISTON, ME (May 27, 2015) – Norway Savings Bank recently provided Community Financial Literacy with a donation for $2,500 to help support financial literacy programs for refugees, immigrants, asylees and low-income individuals in the Lewiston/Auburn area.

Community Financial Literacy (CFL) offers financial literacy courses and one-on-one financial counseling in Portland and in Lewiston/Auburn. Many of the individuals that take CFL’s courses have come to Maine from other countries where the banking systems are much different than those in the United States. CFL helps immigrants navigate the complexities of the US financial system and provides a solid foundation for a successful financial future.

“In 2014, Community Financial Literacy saw a 39% increase in demand for financial education services over the previous year,” said Claude Rwaganje, Executive Director of Community Financial Literacy. “Support from community partners like Norway Savings Bank will allow us to expand our reach and provide financial literacy and stability services to an even greater number of individuals and families in the Lewiston/Auburn area.”

“We are proud to support the financial stability programs that Community Financial Literacy provides to immigrants, refugees and low-income families,” said Patricia Weigel, President & CEO of Norway Savings Bank. “CFL’s programs empower people to make sound financial decisions, which sets them on the path to stability and success.”
