Norway Savings Bank Rolls Out New Security Enhanced Domain to Defend Against Cybercrime in Tandem with New Website

One of First Community Banks in Maine to Move from .COM to .BANK

NORWAY, Maine — February 15, 2017 — Norway Savings Bank announced that the bank’s web address will change to, replacing the previous, effective today, Wednesday, February 15, 2017. The move makes Norway Savings Bank one of the first community banks in Maine to move its domain from .COM to .BANK and represents a proactive step by the 151-year old financial institution to enhance its online security and defend against cybercrime. With the new domain, Norway Savings Bank also rolls out a new customer-friendly website.

“We know that bank websites are often targeted by cybercriminals, which means we are continuously exploring ways to improve our online security and protect our customers’ personal information,” said Ann Brett, SVP, Chief Technology Officer, Norway Savings Bank. “By moving to .BANK we are providing assurance to customers that they are visiting our legitimate bank website because the .BANK extension adds an enhanced level of security, which minimizes the potential for users to be lured to fake bank websites set up to fraudulently obtain customer information.”

Additionally, all .BANK websites meet a higher standard of security requirements, and only certified members of the banking industry can purchase and host a website with a .BANK domain. As one of the first community banks in Maine to adopt .BANK, Norway Savings Bank had to undergo a rigorous application process and make a commitment to implement and maintain specific security requirements intended to reduce risk from online threats.

In 2015, .BANK was created by the nonprofit Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) as a trusted, more secure, and easily identifiable space on the internet for banks and their customers worldwide. It is now owned by the American Bankers Association and managed by fTLD Registry Services, a group of banks, insurance companies and financial services trade associations, and registration eligibility is verified by Symantec, a globally recognized leader in internet security.

New Customer-Friendly Website Comes with Improved Internet Banking Platform
Simultaneously, Norway Savings Bank announced the launch of its re-designed customer-friendly website, with a new refreshed and responsive internet banking application that will be available to customers beginning in early March.

Brett continued: “The new website also comes with a fresh expression of Norway Savings Bank. We understand we play a small, but important role in our customers’ lives. People shouldn’t have to work hard to manage their finances. Our promise is to give them the financial support they need no matter where they fall on life’s journey so that they can live their life in color.”

When customers visit the new Norway Savings Bank website, they will experience:

• A redesigned site with simpler navigation and better organized information
• A “Life Moments” feature section so they can easily find where they may be on life’s journey
• A fun new option to customize the website in the customer’s favorite color
• “ColorSuite Online Banking,” a new set of tools that allow customers 24/7 access to their bank accounts from almost anywhere in the world
• A “Guides & Tools” section filled with educational videos and financial calculators

• Simplified and improved Transfer Features and enhanced Bill Pay Access.
