NORWAY, Maine – Norway Savings Bank is proud to have donated 2,000 N95 respirator face masks to be split between Androscoggin Home Healthcare + Hospice (AHH) in Lewiston, Hospice of Southern Maine (HSM) in Scarborough and Western Maine Health (WMH) in Norway. Masks were delivered to each organization on April 8th.
Due to the nationwide shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE), these organizations have been making due with limited supplies.
“As a regulated industry, banks are required to have pandemic plans and ours included having certain medical supplies on hand. Recognizing there is a shortage of these masks, we decided to donate this potentially life-saving equipment to these great organizations,” said Patricia Weigel, President and CEO of Norway Savings Bank. “Their clinical staff members care for patients in their homes and to think they don’t have the proper protection is heartbreaking to us.”
“We couldn’t be more grateful for this donation,” said Ken Albert, the CEO of Androscoggin Home Healthcare + Hospice. “I called my employees together to share the news and many were literally brought to tears.”
“The decision for Norway Savings Bank to donate N95s to Hospice of Southern Maine was a game changer. As our home program clinical manager, Marjorie Schoonover said, ‘We can now more fully protect our teams when they go into homes or nursing facilities,’” said Daryl Cady, Chief Executive Officer for Hospice of Southern Maine. “The donation from Norway Savings Bank could be what gets us through to the end [of the crisis], and has made a significant difference for the frontline employees of Hospice of Southern Maine.”
