a commitment to community
Norway Savings is a mutual savings bank — a true community bank. We are perceived as the bank that does the right thing by contributing to the growth and betterment of our communities. Our commitment and accountability is to the people, employees and communities we serve — and to doing all we can to encourage our friends and neighbors to live their lives in color.
a culture of giving
In what can be described as a culture of giving, our employees are encouraged to find ways to contribute to their communities. We recognize each other when we share our time and expertise to help those who need it. In fact, each year an employee is honored with the Extra Mile Award for going above and beyond in their volunteer achievements.
a path to development
Developing employees – professionally and personally – is a goal at Norway Savings. What’s unique is that our managers use community giving opportunities to help advance employees’ careers. For instance, we regularly work with the United Way’s “loaned executive” program, giving a special Norway Savings employee the ability to spend several months sharing his or her expertise with this worthy organization.
We also encourage and support employees who serve on the boards of local community organizations. We believe this spirit of compassion and service helps to build strong leadership skills.
In all, our employees donate thousands of hours every year to worthy causes – more than 6,600 in 2016!
dollars donated
Of course, we give to Maine’s non-profits in the traditional sense of the word, too. By focusing on target giving categories – children and education, economic development, cultural activities and services that support low and moderate income families – we can make the highest possible impact on our communities.
